FIFA Has Lost Five Major Sponsors Since Qatar Scandal
Castrol, Continental Tire, and Johnson & Johnson have all announced they will be ending their sponsorship of soccer’s international governing body. They join Sony and Emirates who ended their partnerships last year. Only Castrol has admitted they’ve pulled out due to pressure over the controversial World Cups in Russia and Qatar. Sony did not give a reason, but last summer did express concerns about how Qatar won its bid. That leaves Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Adidas, and Visa still backing Sepp Blatter’s regime. But don’t worry, because pressure for reform could still come from the two rumored replacement sponsors FIFA has lined up: Gazprom and Qatar Airlines.
