Epix Finds Lead Actors for ‘Get Shorty’ Adaptation

Back in May, Epix quietly ordered a TV adaptation of the cult classic film Get Shorty. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard, followed the story of mobster Chili Palmer (John Travolta) as he tries to transition from a life of crime to a life of celebrity in Hollywood after meeting B-movie producer Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman).
Well, Epix has announced that the project is moving forward, and the network’s found its two leads: Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, Moone Boy) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Men of a Certain Age). While the names and minor details have changed, the overall plot of the TV adaptation will remain the same. O’Dowd will play the new iteration of Chili, named Miles Daly, and Romano will play the Zimm-equivalent, Rick. Daly is an enforcer for a Nevada crime family who attempts to leave his previous life behind and become a movie producer in a bid to start a new life for himself and his daughter. Rick is a C-list producer who partners up with Daly and attempts to help him navigate the unfamiliar world of Hollywood.
The show will begin production this fall and aims to make its television debut sometime during the summer of next year. Shameless producer (and former Might Mighty Bosstones keyboardist) Davey Holmes wrote the adaptation and will also be in an executive producer role.
