Duncan Trussell Hosting Virtual Reality Podcast

Duncan Trussell VR is Coming!
Anyone who knows Duncan Trussell knows that the comic is infatuated with futurism and, specifically, virtual reality. An early advocate and adopter of the budding technology, Trussell got his HTC Vive a few months ago and hasn’t looked back (or stopped singing its praises) since. Friend and fellow comic Joe Rogan mentioned this past week on The Joe Rogan Experience that he’d stopped by Trussell’s house to check out the VR rig and instantly fell in love with it. Trussell set him up with both a first-person archery and boxing game, something he knew Rogan would love, and Rogan proceeded to have his mind blown. Both comics (and many others) agree that virtual reality is the future of entertainment and online interaction, and now Trussell himself is trying to help that process along.
On September 1st, Trussell is going to film an episode of his podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour, live in virtual reality. With the help of social VR company AltspaceVR, Trussell will be joined by returning guest and Singularity University faculty member Aaron Frank, along with first-time guest, futurist and author Ramez Naam.
According to a post by Trussell on his website, the show is the first of a few podcasts (and comedy shows!) that Trussell plans to film in VR. Altspace VR’s technology, as far as we can tell, only allows for the use of avatars, not actual images of the user, to appear in the virtual space. Even so, this is an interesting and exciting experiment on Trussell’s behalf, one which promises to be at once both informative and entertaining.

The show will be viewable via the AltspaceVR website and is compatible with the Samsung Gear, the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. If you don’t have a VR rig (or if you’re like me and only have a measly Google Cardboard setup), fear not; The show will also be viewable in 2D mode for both PC and Mac users, though some of the magic is lost without that sweet, sweet VR action.
The show will broadcast live on the AltspaceVR website on September 1st from 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. ET, so be sure to clear your calendar, find your most comfy chair, and prepare to leap into the future with Duncan Trussell.
