Doug Stanhope Defamation Case Dropped
?
Back in May, comedian Doug Stanhope wrote a guest article for TheWrap titled Johnny Depp is Being Blackmailed by Amber Heard — Here’s How I Know, referring to the now-finalized lawsuit between Heard and her estranged husband (and Stanhope’s friend), actor Johnny Depp. The article was about as blunt as the headline, and Heard responded by sicking her lawyers on Stanhope, who referred to the article as “highly defamatory” and “very hurtful.”
Stanhope was being sued by Heard for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress — until earlier today, when TMZ revealed that Heard had dropped her lawsuit against the comic entirely. TMZ’s source claims that as a part of Depp and Heard’s recent divorce settlement, all lawsuits stemming from the couple’s original spousal abuse case are now considered void.
Stanhope was basically just gifted a “Get Out of Jail Free” card, courtesy of his friend Johnny’s divorce — a bittersweet victory if there ever was one.
