Detroit FD So Broke Its Using Rube Goldberg Fire Alarms
The Detroit Fire Department has no money for fire alert systems, so they have set up home-made contraptions to take the place of alarms in their firehouses. Some fire stations use soda cans filled with coins or screws that make noise when knocked over by a fax coming in saying there’s a fire. Others use a fax machine attached to a door hinge that pulls on a wire which rings a door bell to announce an alert. Who knows how many lives will be lost if they ever upgrade from faxes to email!?
