Danny DeVito Shares Robert De Niro Stories From The Comedian

A delightfully silver-haired Danny DeVito shared stories from shooting “The Comedian”, starring Robert De Niro, who DeVito obviously calls “Bob”.

After tiptoeing around it on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, DeVito (who plays De Niro’s brother) came right out and labelled the chip on De Niro’s character’s shoulder and said “the edge is so deep… you could fall into it and disappear… he’s an asshole”. That edge comes from De Niro’s character’s career as a sitcom star pigeonholing his life into a superficial role, preventing the comedian from wholeheartedly pursuing stand up. DeVito and Fallon artfully sputtered in synchronicity like a caricature of a Johnny Carson funny celebrity/celebrity host story that perhaps comprised an actual narrative. It was more fun when they weren’t making sense.
