Cosby Gives Eddie Murphy Props

Eddie Murphy turned down a chance to impersonate Bill Cosby on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special on NBC this past Sunday. And now the elder comedian is giving Murphy thanks. NBC News reported that Cosby released a statement through a publicist saying, “I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions”.

It was first discovered that Murphy refused the part of Bill Cosby on SNL 40 in a series of tweets from former SNL cast member and writer Norm Macdonald. He had tweeted out that Eddie Murphy didn’t feel uncomfortable doing the impression and decided the laughs weren’t worth it. The impression was scheduled to come during the special’s “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch.

Cosby has been facing fierce media and online criticism and accusations following a series of women claiming he drugged and sexually assaulted them have come forward.

Eddie Murphy still hasn’t commented on not wanting to do an impression of Cosby on the special or on his overall appearance on the show. Murphy hadn’t been back to SNL in over 30 years. Now finding himself in the middle of another Cosby controversy because of his return, he may steer clear of studio 8-H for a few more.

Judd Apatow, however did comment on this yesterday on his twitter account.  Apatow has been outspoken about his feelings for Cosby for months now, advocating boycotts of his shows.
