Coming Soon: Ex Machina

ex-machina-613_LRG

Novelist (The Beach, Coma) and sci-fi screenwriter (28 Says Later, Sunshine, Never Let Me Go) Alex Garland marks his directing debut with Ex Machina and he certainly seems to have learned something from collaborator Danny Boyle. We won’t see Ex Machina until next year, there are more than a few elements of this trailer that suggests it has the makings to be a solid thriller. After all, who doesn’t like the tale of a robot gone bad…especially a sexy one. And Oscar Isaac has the talent and the oddness  to play an entertaining mad scientist. Isaac’s Star Wars co-star Domhnall Gleeson (the prisoner in this year’s Calvary) plays a test subject and Swedish actor Alicia Vikander plays A.i. Ava. Let’s just hope this isn’t next year’s Trancendence.
In theaters April 2015.
