Comedians and Their Hobbies

How Hobbies May Influence Stand-Up
Picture a comedian and you likely think of them on stage, under bright lights, delivering punchlines with perfect timing. Comedians and comics may have fascinating hobbies that reveal different sides of their personalities (or even that inspire their stand-up routines). Quirky hobbies and activities not only provide a break from their demanding careers but also a chance to pursue passions. You spend a lot of time following comedians and watching their thoughts on the world, sometimes it is good to know what else they get up to!
Norm MacDonald – Gambling
Norm MacDonald was a high-profile gambling fan. As comedians go, Norm was well-loved by Americans as well as comedy fans all over the world.
Saturday Night Live gave Norm his big break, which is the story for so many top comics. Hobbies informed a lot of his chat both on-stage and in podcasts. MacDonald would often talk about his fandom of casino games and the fact he would play in person and also play online gambling games.
Gambling is not an unusual hobby for comedians. They often enjoy hobbies that allow them to switch off but still have some sort of a competitive edge. Some table games may provide them with this sort of hobby that fits the bill. Social casino games can also fill the comedian’s need to constantly be talking to people (many comics thrive on other humans and social interactions).
Norm’s exploits led to some great stories which he was always keen to share. Stand-up may have been his strongest form of comedy and he was always a fan of talking about the events in his life.
James Acaster – Music
British comedians tend to have that “love them or hate them” thing going on. Acaster, though, seems to be pretty universally loved.
His love of music has shone through all of his stand-up routines, and he has done routines about the fact he used to be in bands. He’s a talented musician.
The Wow! Scenario, Three Line Whip, and Pindrop were the names of his musical pursuits, and he’s since interviewed some real musical superstars. In a recent podcast episode, Acaster said he was thinking about working on music again and may even record an album. He’s a drummer but has played a variety of other instruments. James has a full section of his website dedicated to music and has even written books about it.
Jerry Seinfeld – Cars
Ever seen “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”? You may know then that the famous US comedian has a huge affinity with cars – a collection that includes over 150 vehicles, Seinfeld’s garage is a museum of automotive history. His love for cars is not just about owning them; he enjoys the thrill of driving and meticulously maintaining these vintage beauties
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is exactly what you’ll assume from the name. Seinfeld picks up a comedy friend and they explore, combining a passion for coffee and his many amazing cars. In the UK, it is broadcast on Netflix, and this is a company the comedian has a long-standing relationship with. Specials are being made all the time for the Netflix network.
Amy Poehler – Gardening
Gardening has crept into Poehler’s conversations on podcasts and influenced her comedy.
Star of “Parks and Recreation” and another SNL graduate finds solace in the tranquility of her garden.
Gardening is Poehler’s way of connecting with nature and finding peace amidst the chaos of Hollywood. She enjoys the process of planting, nurturing, and watching her garden grow. This hobby provides her with a sense of accomplishment and a quiet escape from her huge roles. Poehler is a proper star with Hollywood movies under her belt.
Kevin Hart – Fitness
Hart is high-energy in all performances. Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised.
Hart is a fitness enthusiast and he often shares his workout routines and motivational fitness journey on social media. Kevin is always happy to share what he’s up to: “I like playing basketball and going to the gym. I don’t box, but I’ll ride my bike and go jogging or running in the park. Sometimes my lady and I go hiking.”
Marathons and even a fitness brand have been part of the star’s life in recent years. Hart went from a bit-part actor to a megastar. Maybe it was starring in films with The Rock that influenced his fitness lifestyle. Followers know he also takes to Instagram to share fitness routines and updates.
Conclusion
Comedians find inspiration in what they know. Music, fitness, even gardening, and some hobbies that may seem a little mundane are hobbies that some people will absolutely love to pull apart and find the fun in. Hobbies can sometimes surprise you, but fans of these comics will know the sort of things they are into!
