Kaepernick stated “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color.” Kaepernick’s stance immediately sparked controversy on social media outlets. Makes sense: you demand your accountant, your barista, and your uber driver all stand for the national anthem, so why wouldn’t you expect a football player to?!?
