Caught in the Act: This Week, Luis J. Gomez Plays Truth or Dare

Our newest column debuts this week, and it comes from our own comedy groupie– Amy Hawthorne.  Each week, Amy will share one moment in New York Comedy that you need to know about.  Last week, Amy’s moment took place at The Bitter End, an iconic club where great comedians like Joan Rivers, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, David Brenner, Dick Cavett, Woody Allen and Rodney Dangerfield performed early on in their careers. Look for Amy’s column to start appearing every Thursday and find out what you missed and why you shoulda been there.

This week Jay Oakerson filmed eight episodes of his upcoming NBC digital Seeso series “What’s Your F^&%$ing Deal?!” an all crowdwork show that asked performers to take the stuff they usually use to get the crowd warmed up or segue between jokes and make a whole set out of it. With comedians ranging from already out-of-the-box like Andy Kindler and Brody Stevens to I-like-it-well-written-and-rehearsed like Sherrod Small and Mike Vecchione, there were sure to be some interesting moments in each and every set. A running gag between Jay and co-host Ardie Fuqua was the elephant trunk Ardie’s got packed in the drawres of his well tailored suits. So it’s no wonder that in this phallus-filled atmosphere, when Luis J Gomez decided to close his set with a game of Truth or Dare, it quickly turned to dicks. Namely, Luis’s dick, which he dared an audience member to touch. Not just any audience member, either, a fresh-faced twenty-year-old young man who is so orthodox he was wearing a yarmulke at the Tuesday night taping. (Seen above, earlier in the set, swapping headwear with Luis). Who knows if the Seeso censors will let that little creepy uncle game through, though frankly, there’s no amount of the right shooting and editing that will make that moment nearly as fun as it was for the lucky folks packed into the historic Bitter End bar Tuesday night.
