The Cannes film festival is in a serious beef with Netflix. The festival is now demanding that movies in contention need to have been released in a theater and Netflix isn’t complying. Next year, all films in the festival will be required to have been shown in French theaters. And no, Netflix, a viewing party in someone’s living room streamed from a laptop to a television doesn’t count as a theater.
