‘Blazing Saddles’ Coming To Radio City Music Hall

Comedy legend Mel Brooks celebrated his 90th birthday two weeks ago, and the man is showing no signs of slowing down. In recent months, Brooks has hosted a few live screenings of his 1974 hit Western parody, Blazing Saddles, at venues such as Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center and Chicago’s Chicago Theatre. The events have been wildly popular, but none of them can compare to the scale and sheer awesomeness of Brooks’ next screening: New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

This rendition of Mel Brooks: Back in the Saddle Again! will see the legendary funny man, responsible for such cult classics as Young Frankenstein, The Producers and Spaceballs, take to one of the most famous stages in the world. Once the premiere destination for film debuts (such as the original King Kong, To Kill a Mocking Bird and National Velvet), the venue has in the past 30 years shifted its focus to concerts and stage shows instead. Radio City will still play host to the occasional movie screening, but only to a prestigious and select few, like The Lord of the Rings, a Hitchcock series, and Back to the Future, so getting a chance to see a film played there is truly like stepping into a time machine and reliving the glory days of the fabled theater.

The event will feature a screening of Blazing Saddles widely regarded as one of the greatest comedy films ever made, followed by a conversation with Brooks. The director, writer and actor will discuss behind the scenes details of the making of the film and hold an audience Q&A, which have proven in the past to be highly entertaining.

Brooks is a living legend, one of the few in Hollywood history to win a Tony, an Emmy, a Grammy and an Oscar. He’s received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute and a British Film Institute Fellowship. Blazing Saddles ranks number six on the AFI’s top 100 comedy films of all time, so don’t miss your chance to see this mythological performance for yourself.
