A biography of famed comedy troupe The State, written by Corey Stulce, will be released next month.

The book, called The Union of The State, chronicles the oral history of comedy legends from NYU to MTV and beyond. The State is a legendary group within the comedy world whose members have produced, directed, and written countless successful comedies for both film and television. Formed in 1988 by New York University sophomore Todd Holoubek, the group is best known for it’s popular MTV sketch comedy show, The State, which aired four seasons from 1993 to 1995. Many members of the group have enjoyed individual success, such as Kerri Kenney-Silver of Reno: 911!, Michael Ian Black of Wet Hot American Summer, and Michael Showalter of Stella and The Michael Showalter Showalter.

The biography pulls from a huge well of first-hand accounts, including testimonies from each member of the group: Michael Ian Black, Kerri Kenney-Silver, David Wain, Michael Showalter, Kevin Allison, Robert Ben Garant, Todd Holoubek, Michael Patrick Jann, Thomas Lennon, Joe Lo Truglio, and Ken Marino. Stulce also tapped The State’s frequent collaborators for insight, including Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key, actor Paul Rudd, Rob Corddry of Children’s Hospital and Hot Tub Time Machine, and comedian/actress Janeane Garofalo.

The book will be released in print, Kindle, and ebook formats on May 3rd. To promote the book, members of The State will be performing at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles on May 7th, The Bell House in Brooklyn on May 20th, and signing books at Planet Score Records in Maplewood, MO on June 25th.
