Amazon Viewers Will Get to Choose Between The Tick, I Love Dick and Jean-Claude…Van Johnson

Amazon has a few new comedy pilots on the way, and one of them is bound to be as action-packed as a digital comedy has ever been. Action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme is set to star in Jean-Claude Van Johnson. Like his hit crime drama JCVD, Van Damme is playing a semi-fictional version of himself, taking on the role of a retired action-film star and former mercenary who is dragged back into the world of professional killing after crossing paths with an old flame. With names like Pete Atencio (Key and Peele) and Ridley Scott (yes, the Ridley Scott) behind it, this series has potential to be a ton of fun.

Van Damme has made quite the comeback in recent years, having played live action and animated roles on the big screen, the small screen, and now the computer screen. The show also stars The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad, The Middle’s Moises Arias and Weeds’ Kat Foster.

Also on the list of new pilots are The Tick and I Love Dick. The Tick is a dark superhero comedy, based on the comic of the same name, that will follow a down-and-out accountant who uncovers that his town is run by an unsavory super villain and eventually teams up with “a strange blue superhero.” The show will star Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy,) Valorie Curry (House of Lies,) Griffin Newman (Vinyl,) Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen,) Brendan Hines (Scorpion,) and Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin).

I Love Dick is a drama based on the novel of the same name in which a husband and wife move to an artist/academic commune in Texas where they meet a guy named Dick (played by Kevin Bacon) who turns their marriage, along with their notions of love and monogamy, upside down. Kathryn Hahn (Transparent) and Griffin Dunne (Dallas Buyers Club) play the main characters, Chris and Sylvere, alongside Bacon.

While all of the shows have had pilots ordered, only one will actually become a full-fledged Amazon Original Series. Starting on August 19th, those interested in the shows can view the pilot episodes either through the Amazon Video app or through Amazon’s website. Whichever show receives the most positive reviews will be chosen to go to series, so be sure to watch and review whichever show interests you the most!
