Abel Ferrara Film Edited With Opposite Message
Director Abel Ferrara continues to battle over his film ‘Welcome To New York’, a portrayal of disgraced French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Ferrara claims his final cut of the film was taken away from him by Wild Bunch, the French company that produced the film, and that Strauss-Kahn is now made to look like a sympathetic figure rather than an abuser. Ferrara claims IFC and Wild Bunch buckled to pressure from Strauss-Kahn to clean up the movie.
IFC offered Ferrara the chance to release his own R-Rated version of the film but he declined to respond. “I’ve had final cut for 30 years. I wouldn’t make a movie without final cut. And I don’t make R-rated movies. I’m certainly not going to make an R-rated movie about DSK.”
James Cameron had the same issue when he wanting to make all the Avatar creatures maroon.
