Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, the CBS hosts are on the job, everyone else is not, and it’s a Conan-less late night.

One of the problems behind the very popular Conan O’Brien leaving late night last week besides the Team Coco fans losing a host that’s practically raised them since they were kids, is that now there’s going to be a huge comedy drought in late night.

Conan O’Brien was a champion of giving comedians their chance in late night. Whether it was his NBC shows, “Late Night” and the “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien“, Conan was one of the biggest proponents of breaking new comics. Hopefully, the other late night hosts will step up to fill the void. It just won’t be this week though.

Other than Stephen Colbert and James Corden on CBS, all the other late night hosts will be vacationing this week. That’s including the Daily Show with Trevor Noah which is being pre-empted all week long.

Monday is an evening filled with late night reruns, but there is one repeat we highly recommend. On Monday’s Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon replay, one of Jimmy’s guests will be Nate Bargatze. This episode from this past April marked Nate’s 8th Tonight Show appearance, making him one of Jimmy Fallon’s favorite stand ups.

Nate was promoting his latest Netflix special, “Nate Bargatze: The Greatest Average American” which is his second special for the streaming service. The new hour was released back in March. The special was filmed outdoors at the Universal Studios Hollywood lot where Nate gave the audience plenty of information about himself during his newest hour.

He reflects on his marriage and he’s got stories on parenting. Plus, you’ll find out about his 3 concussions and why Nate refers to his contemporaries as the “Oregon Trail” generation. You can catch “Nate Bargatze: The Greatest Average American” on Netflix anytime and be sure to catch his latest Tonight Show appearance on Monday’s repeat episode of Fallon.

In a non-comedy highlight, for any “Fast & Furious” fans, Tuesday night’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert is for you. Colbert welcomes the cast of the latest installment of the series, “F9: The Fast Saga.” Joining Colbert will be Vin Diesel, Helen Mirren, Ludacris and many others from this chapter of the “Fast & Furious” franchise which is currently in theaters anywhere nationwide where theaters are open.

Anyone who watches the Late Show with Stephen Colbert knows that Colbert keeps a strong relationship with his beginnings at the Daily Show on Comedy Central where he worked as a correspondent before getting his own series, “The Colbert Report” and then, the Late Show after that.

On Wednesday, Colbert welcomes Randall Otis who currently works as a reporter for the Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Colbert continues to pay it forward when Otis will be making his national late night television stand up debut on Wednesday’s Late Show. While Colbert is welcoming a  comedian new to late night, he also has one of America’s favorite veteran stand ups on the schedule this week.

In a week of reruns, Stephen Colbert has a bright spot with a brand new show on Thursday night. The CBS host welcomes Jim Gaffigan to the Late Show to promote his new movie, the hit Pixar animated film available on Disney+, “Luca“. The film is beautifully animated with gorgeous scenes above and below the water. It’s the story of a young sea monster who gets to explore life out of the water and live as a human boy while he’s on dry land.

Jim Gaffigan puts in a fantastic family-friendly performance as the voice of Lorenzo Paguro in “Luca.” His character is the head of a family of sea monsters who’s obsessed more with his prize-winning crabs than listening to his son Luca’s quest for adventure. “Luca” is available now for streaming on Disney+.

In Thursday’s reruns, other late night shows are re-airing some of your favorite funny people this week. Billy Crystal will be on a repeat edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday. And over on NBC, the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon has a replay of a show featuring former “SNL” and “30 Rock” star, Tina Fey.

Then this weekend, SNL is still in reruns and will be for the rest of the summer. The repeat airing this coming Saturday will be hosted by Bill Burr who was making his Saturday Night Live hosting debut in this episode from October, 2020. Bill’s musical guest for this SNL encore presentation is Jack White.

It’s week of great late night reruns. But I guess that’s just me repeating myself too.
