Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: May 29, 2021

Saturday Night Live is out of the office for the summer, but tonight you can enjoy an SNL repeat hosted by “Office” co-star John Krasinski!
Today begins the first of many Saturdays to come where you check in with the Interrobang to see if there’s a new SNL airing this evening, and you disappointedly discover that it’s another Saturday Night Live rerun. This will happen from now until the last Saturday of September or maybe even the first Saturday of October. Then while you’re here, you catch up with all the great comedy news articles on the IBang. Not a bad way to spend your time while waiting for the new season of Saturday Night Live to start.
This evening’s repeat SNL episode takes us back to the beginning of the year. It’s the first show of 2021 for the SNL cast and crew. The host for the SNL Mid-Season Premiere replay tonight is one of the many stars of the American version of “The Office” and he’s also the actor who plays the title character in “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” on Amazon Prime. Sitcom performer, action star and now comedy – musical variety show host; John Krasinski seems to be able to do it all. But does he do it well!? You can tune in tonight to catch an encore presentation of this SNL which originally aired Saturday, January 30th, 2021, and find out for yourself.
The Saturday Night Live episode airing tonight is also the first SNL since Donald Trump left office. Usually with Donny in the White House, you could depend on a politically themed SNL – Cold Open. That’s different tonight. Cast member Kate McKinnon opens the show and as herself. Normally, we see her as Rudy Giuliani or Senator Lindsey “Sycophant” Graham. This evening she’s herself and hosting a segment called “What Still Works.”
In this public affairs show sketch, Kate McKinnon searches to find anything that still works in America. Most of the other cast members parade out one after another as experts and entrepreneurs in a search to find anything that might work. Kate runs through a series of topics from government, social media, the stock market and sports to see if anything works. And she finds out one thing still works and oddly enough, it’s in Tampa, Florida.
We won’t even bore you with the details about host John Krasinski’s monologue in tonight’s SNL replay. The writers go for a totally hack old gimmick and Krasinski and cast member Pete Davidson don’t even commit to performing it. But if you want to laugh at a man kissing another man for the thousandth time on SNL, please enjoy yourself. Otherwise, we suggest going for a snack break during the monologue.
There are some highlights in this evening’s SNL rerun following the lame monologue segment. You’ll see two sketches that are showing up on a lot of entertainment writers’ Best of the Season lists. One is a sketch where John Krasinski plays a financial expert being interviewed about the GameStop stock market phenomenon. The pandemic forces Krasinski’s character to be interviewed from home where he tries to keep his twin children entertained and they’re the ones that have the viewers’ interest.
The other top moment from this evening’s SNL repeat is an SNL Short called “The Loser.” Host John Krasinski plays a big brother who keeps his little brother (featured player Andrew Dismukes) from being bullied at school. Or does he just make things worse!? Yeah. You’ve probably already guessed. The other SNL Short on tonight’s show also got good reviews. It’s celebrities singing their own lyrics to their TV show themes. You’ll love hearing John Krasinski singing the lyrics to opening theme to “The Office“.
In the rest of the sketches tonight, you’ll get to see John Krasinski as a local sheriff in “Blue Georgia,” which might as well be called Bizarro Georgia because it’s so different from the red Georgia that we all once knew. J-Kras also plays the host of a neighborhood game night that will have you wondering where your neighbors were on January 6th!? Also during the sketches tonight, John Krasinski plays the host of the 90’s version of “Supermarket Sweep“, the marketing genius behind Subway’s “5 Dollar Footlongs”, and he stars in a very adult reimagining of Disney and Pixar’s “Ratatouille.”
There’s plenty of current events for anchormen Colin Jost and Michael Che to catch up on from their winter break on Weekend Update. Jost covers the weird stock market fluctuations going on with GameStop and Che talks about our new President and some of the executive orders coming out of Joe Biden’s freshly repainted Oval Office.
Jost and Che also cover the Covid vaccine distribution plan, the second Trump impeachment, transgender Americans serving in the military, Harriet Tubman being on the $20 bill, the Super Bowl pre-game, shark attacks, a model selling her old bathwater, the world’s tallest dog, and spicy McNuggets coming back to McDonald’s restaurants.
At the Weekend Update desk this evening, you’ll get to see cast member Beck Bennett as the always shouting Mike Lindell, the My Pillow Guy. He’s talking about getting banned by Twitter. And he’s doing it loudly. Featured player Bowen Yang and cast member Kyle Mooney arrive at the news desk as New York icon Fran Lebowitz (Yang) and Academy Award winning film director Martin Scorsese (Mooney), the stars of the Netflix series “Pretend It’s a City.” And cast member Cecily Strong brings back a Weekend Update favorite tonight when she appears as “Cathy Anne, the Woman Who Yells Outside Michael Che’s Window.”
The promos for tonight’s repeat edition of Saturday Night Live are just below for you to check out. We find host John Krasinski joined by musical guest Machine Gun Kelly and cast member Heidi Gardner. As usual, the pressure is on for tonight’s host. Also, Machine Gun Kelly states the obvious when it comes to how he got his stage name.
John Krasinski, the star of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” hosts a repeat edition of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Machine Gun Kelly, tonight at 11:30pm et on NBC!
