Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: April 24, 2021

Saturday Night Live is giving us a very sexy repeat SNL tonight hosted by the Duke of Hastings himself, “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page!
April repeats continue for Saturday Night Live and this evening’s SNL rerun is from February 20, 2021. The show features a celebrity who’s making his Saturday Night Live hosting debut in this episode. Regé-Jean Page who stars as the very desirable bachelor, Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings on the Netflix award winning mega-hit, “Bridgerton.”
The dramatic series is known globally for its very steamy love-making scenes with a cast of men and women actors with super model good looks. In tonight’s repeat SNL, host Regé-Jean Page stars in a parody sketch of “Bridgerton” where we get to see exactly how those early 19th century English boudoir sex scenes are shot with the help of “intimacy experts.”
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. First, here’s how tonight’s SNL rerun opens. As fans know, Donald Trump, who was a constant source of inspiration for the politically leaning cold opens on SNL had been out of office for a couple of weeks when this show first aired.
With no Trump, Saturday Night Live did something new to open the show. The variety series stayed political with the opening sketch, but found a different way to present it without using the 45th President. Fortunately for SNL, there was plenty of non-Trump headlines to use for material in the cold open.
Tonight’s Saturday Night Live repeat opens with a talk show sketch called “Oops, You Did It Again” hosted by Britney Spears. It was all perfect timing for SNL. The new documentary “Framing Britney Spears” was being released, so the troubled singer was back in the news at the same time that SNL had sophomore feature player Chloe Fineman in the cast who does a pitch perfect Britney impression.
It was easy to keep the SNL Cold Open politically-themed with two embattled politicians in the news the week this Saturday Night Live episode originally aired. The guests on “Oops You Did It Again” included Texas Senator Ted Cruz who was on the front page with his tone-death family vacation to Mexico while the people in his home state were without power and water and literally freezing to death during a brutal February winter ice storm sweeping through the Lone Star state. Also, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was being investigated for allegedly keeping nursing home deaths off the books during the Covid pandemic crisis.
Then, add to that guest list, actor Gina Carano who was fired that week from the hit Disney+ hit show, “The Mandalorian.” Not for clashes with the series’ star Baby Yoda, but for insensitive posts on Instagram comparing the plight of conservatives in Hollywood to the Jews during the Holocaust. And SNL had the perfect cast members to play all these newsmakers in the Britney Spears talk show sketch to open the show.
In addition to Chloe Fineman’s Britney, Ted Cruz is played by cast member Aidy Bryant, along with cast member Pete Davidson playing Governor Cuomo and cast member Cecily Strong taking on the part of Gina Carano. They’re appearing on the Britney’s show, so that the singer can get public apologies out of each of them. Oh, and also so they can dance along with the hostess.
Regé-Jean Page introduces himself to the audience to kick off his quick monologue. He explains how racy the period drama “Bridgerton” is to watch and how he’s automatically assumed to be a “smoldering, sensual smoke-show” like his character. He’s out to prove he’s just a regular guy, but some close-up camera shots along with porno music playing in the background, leads us to believe he is an honest smoke-show.
He’s quickly interrupted by cast members Aidy Bryant, Ego Nwodim (who has a great show tonight) and Chloe Fineman who all insist on being his SNL personal liason to the show. The girls are pretty giddy and try out some British accents of their own on Regé-Jean. In return, they get serenaded by the host who throws it to commercials just in time.
For this SNL repeat tonight, we’ll see Regé-Jean Page in an “Actors Spotlight” sketch playing fellow British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir who you know from playing the part of Malcolm X in the Oscar nominated film, “One Night in Miami“. He performs opposite of SNL cast member Chris Redd as another British actor, Daniel Kaluuya and veteran cast member Kenan Thompson as Ice Cube who tries to pass himself off as British too. This sketch shows the genius of Kenan Thompson as he somehow blends a bad British accent with Cube’s natural L.A. speak. It’s amazing.
The rest of Regé-Jean Page’s night on SNL includes being the emcee for the very prestigious “Mr. Chicken Legs Pageant” and appearing in a sketch titled “Let’s Say Grace“, where Regé-Jean finds himself in a neighborhood prayer contest that escalates as it pits neighbor versus neighbor to see who can be the holiest while saying Grace.
This SNL episode re-airing tonight is big on musical numbers. First, we get a sketch called “Drivers License” where host Regé-Jean Page joins the male cast of Saturday Night Live (and Kate McKinnon in male drag) as some pool hall drinking buddies who debate the qualities of the Olivia Rodrigo song “Driver’s License” and bond over their love for the tune.
SNL‘s singing and dancing cast keep it going with another musical sketch that takes place in the late 1700’s during the Age of Sail where featured cast member Andrew Dismukes plays a young lad joining the crew of a whaling vessel and learning about the songs of the sea.
Speaking of music, even 2 of the 3 SNL Shorts on tonight’s repeat are music-themed too. First, Ego Nwodim is the cast member who gets the spotlight in an SNL music video for the song “Loco” about a woman driven crazy by the Covid pandemic. This short features tonight’s musical guest Bad Bunny performing as a house plant along side host Regé-Jean Page and of course, cast member Pete Davidson who loves to rap.
Later in the show, cast members Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney and Andrew Dismukes perform in a “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” 90’s style music short called “The Grocery Rap.” These hip-hop kids sing about everything you can buy in a grocery store, much to the dismay of the supermarket manager (Regé-Jean Page).
There’s one non-musical SNL Short on tonight’s repeat called “The Job Interview.” It’s one of those sketches where you can’t imagine how it was pitched and greenlit. Not because it’s bad, but because of how bizarre it is. Let’s explain it this way. Regé-Jean Page plays a man going in for a job interview at an ad agency who is going to turn the advertising world upside down. Wait, till you hear the new Netflix slogan he comes up with. It will “save the company.”
Leading the news on tonight’s rerun edition of Weekend Update is simply a continuation of the jokes that started in the SNL Cold Open. That’s the bearded, Texas-size mess that is Ted Cruz. As anchorman Colin Jost puts it to open Weekend Update, “if you hate Ted Cruz, this is a pretty fun week.” Anchorman Michael Che joins the Ted bashing by saying, “Cruz would have returned from Mexico even sooner, but it took him like 40 minutes to get out of a hammock.”
Other stories covered tonight on Weekend Update include President Biden’s new immigration plan, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo wanting to legalize pot, two Florida women disguising themselves as grandmothers to get the Covid vaccine, the new Mars rover, Krispy Kreme’s new Mars donut, the Kim Kardashian / Kanye West divorce, new Ash Wednesday pandemic protocols, the #SIMP hashtag, and a new children’s book from the Navy Admiral that helped kill Osama bin Laden.
Plus, unless it’s edited out, tonight you’ll hear Michael Che’s joke about the Covid vaccine distribution in Israel that caused a massive social media uproar. We’ll see tonight if the joke makes it through to the rerun edition of this evening’s SNL episode.
Cast member Heidi Gardner brought a new character to Weekend Update in this episode. Heidi appears as Jessie Raunch, the director of a new meal program which gets hot food to low income families in New York City. Unfortunately, Jessie’s choice of wardrobe and her demeanor might be a little unnerving to the families she’s trying to deliver meals to in the city. Watch it for yourselves tonight.
Also visiting the Weekend Update desk tonight will be SNL Relationship Expert Pete Davidson. This probably goes without saying, but in this appearance, Pete talks about living with his mom, his mental health, his tattoos, Staten Island, along with some self-deprecating remarks about how he looks, and all while giggling at the jokes written for him. It’s the usual Pete Davidson fare.
The only thing that was a little different about this Weekend Update appearance for Pete was that in an off-handed remark, he challenged YouTuber Jake Paul to a boxing match. It remains to be seen how much of this is a work. Pete put out the (kinda) challenge on the February 20th edition of Update. Fast-forward to now and Jake Paul is furious at Pete Davidson for Pete’s vicious remarks while commentating on Jake’s last fight against Ben Askren.
According to HuffPo which reported on the fight aftermath, Jake announced that Pete Davidson will be banned from being a guest commentator at any future Triller Fight Club PPV boxing matches, which is the flag that Jake and his brother Logan Paul fight under. While commentating on the Jake Paul – Ben Askren match, Pete called Jake “a piece of shit” and added, “They both suck, but at least somebody’s gonna get hurt. Now back to you guys in the booth!” We can only wait and see to find out if this is a ruse to set up an actual Pete Davidson versus Jake Paul boxing challenge.
Just below is the promo for tonight’s SNL rerun. It features host Regé-Jean Page along with musical guest Bad Bunny and cast member Melissa Villaseñor. In the promo, everyone is thinking about new nicknames for themselves. Except of course for Bad Bunny who already has a cool name. Speaking of names, if you haven’t seen “Bridgerton” or don’t know how to pronounce the host’s name “Regé-Jean Page”, listen to the promo a couple of times, you’ll pick it up. Hopefully, you already know how to pronounce Bad Bunny.
Regé-Jean Page is hosting a repeat Saturday Night Live tonight with musical guest Bad Bunny who performs one number tonight while holding his WWE 24/7 Championship belt. It starts at 11:30pm et on NBC.
