Bobby Moynihan Joins CBS Sitcom Cast as ‘SNL’ Contract Nears End

It seems like it was only yesterday that Bobby Moynihan graduated from Derrick Comedy’s YouTube page to the stages of Saturday Night Live. A cast member since 2008, Moynihan has enjoyed years of success and popularity on the show, which in turn has generated work for him in other mediums. Now, it appears that the actor is finally ready to branch out from the confines of Studio 8H and try his hand at something new: a sitcom.

According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, Moynihan is quickly coming up on the end of his two-year contract extension with SNL, which he signed back in 2015 when his standard seven-season contract ended. Moynihan has apparently signaled to friends (but not to SNL officially) that he’s hoping for season 42 to be his last, hence why he’s made himself available for pilot season.

Due to his popularity on SNL, Moynihan received multiple offers for pilots, but settled on a sitcom called Me, Myself & I. The show will follow the trials and tribulations of Alex Riley (Moynihan), an inventor who is struggling to get past his most recent creative block. The story will be told from Alex’s perspective during three periods of his life: Him at 14 (1991), at 40 (2017), and at 65 (2042). Moynihan will, obviously, be playing the present-day version of Riley.

Sitcoms are one of the last frontiers for Moynihan to explore at this point. In recent years, he’s played roles in various big and small screen projects, both live action and animated. From kids shows and movies like DuckTales, Steven Universe, Inside Out and The Secret Life of Pets to more adult fare like Sisters, Man Seeking Woman, Brother Nature and the upcoming film from fellow SNL vet Taran Killam, Why We’re Killing Gunther.
