Carol Burnett Takes Jimmy Fallon’s Whisper Challenge

Carol Burnett stopped by the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her new book “In Such Good Company” which gives behind-the-scenes accounts from her variety series, “The Carol Burnett Show” and its 11 year run on CBS in the late 60s through the 70s. However, Carol had plenty of stories from her appearances on the Tonight Show as well, going back to host Jack Paar. She also talked about her nerves before appearing on the show with Johnny Carson and how during one appearance, she purposely sabotaged the interview which ended up being to Johnny’s delight.

Of course, when you have someone who’s a comedy legend like Carol Burnett sitting in the guest chair, instead of milking every second of it by having her talk about the early days of television comedy and the amazing names she’s worked with over the years, you would rather play one of your weird party games with her. That’s what Fallon did. He went head-to-head with Carol Burnett in the Tonight Show Whisper Challenge, where one person wears headphones blasting loud music and has to guess the common phrase or name the other player is saying. You can watch the Whisper Challenge below, but just know, like everything else in comedy, Carol Burnett excelled at it. All those years of working with Harvey Korman on the Carol Burnett Show and watching him crack up during sketches was a fine primer for anytime she appears with Jimmy Fallon.
