Pete Davidson’s First Hour-Long Special Filming in Late April

Tickets to Pete Davidson’s two shows at NYC’s Skirball Center on April 30th are sold out, but the rest of us will still get to see the SNL cast member’s set. Comedy Central will film the shows to be released as Pete Davidson’s first hour-long stand-up special, “Pete Davidson: SMD”. The special will air in the Fall, presumably through CC ‘s website and app and on the actual channel. And bits might appear on their Snapchat starting in the late Summer. Just a guess.
Davidson’s special is a twofold homecoming; although he made national headlines as one of SNL’s youngest cast members, he was first discovered by Nick Cannon as a stand-up comedian. Also, he’s from Staten Island so it’s literally going home.
The special’s director, Joel Gallen, has worked partially on comedy specials and roasts (“Chris Rock: Never Scared, Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now”, “Roast of Flavor Flav”) as well as telethons for genuinely amazing causes (“Hope for Haiti Now:Benefit for Earthquake Relief”). Gallen’s obviously qualified to direct the special, but his career is a fascinating split between the genuine and the unserious. The most obvious link between him and Pete Davidson is Gallen’s work directing “America: A Tribute to Heroes” after September 11th, while Davidson has spoken about his own father, a NYC firefighter, dying in the tragedy. That and all the comedy specials Gallen’s worked on.
Anywho, to Davidson’s live audience-no spoilers! Oh, and have a nice night.
