Chris Rock Thinks Ahead to His Dream Collaboration with Denzel Washington

According to Comedy Hype, Chris Rock was brainstorming with J.J. Abrams about their dream collaborators during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Rock complimented Abrams’ intensity and the positivity he brought to working on the Oscars, and then speculated that he’d love to direct Denzel Washington in a comedy.
Rock praised Washington’s ability to “turn a phrase and be kind of charming and kind of funny”, then saying that he’s “trying to figure out what I can get him in that’s kind of funny.” Whatever project he’s thinking out loud about sounds built around Washington as the star.
Chris Rock’s directorial debut was 2003’s “Head of State”, a political comedy Rock also wrote and starred in. Most recently he directed Amy Schumer’s hugely successful stand-up special, “Live at the Apollo”. The Director’s Guild of America nominated the show for an award as an Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Specials.
Washington’s most recent feature was starring in the 2014 crime-thriller “The Equalizer” but his last comedy was thirty-five years ago as George Segal’s teenage son in the race-comedy “Carbon Copy”. He’s also been announced in the sequel to “The Equalizer”, is currently in pre-production for a racial drama called “Fences” and will act alongside Chris Pratt in “The Magnificent Seven”, a Japanese adapted-play about cowboys protecting a village.
