Craig Robinson is Getting Into the Careoke Game

Cash Cab Meets Corden Meets Name That Tune With New Careoke Show
Like Carpool Karaoke? You are going to love Caraoke Showdown. The same people who turned Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync battle into a tv show have turned their eyes on James Corden’s Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke.
Recent Sundance Actor award winner, Hot Tub Time Machine Alum, musician and comedian Craig Robinson has signed on to host the Cash Cab-meets karaoke bar-meets Name That Tune mashup. The game show will feature Robinson picking up unsuspecting contestants who will get a chance to win cash prizes by either belting out their favorite tunes, finishing the lyrics to a song or performing act outs of the lyrics. Spike hit a homerun with Lip Sync Battles and their star packed song clips go viral like clockwork every week. I think we can all agree the season two premiere gender bending performances by The Tatums (Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan Tatum) is the most fun we have seen a married couple have in a long time.
James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke has been a giant hit with YouTube counts going over 50 million hits for the Adele and Justin Bieber editions of the recurring series. Other guests have included Stevie Wonder, One Direction, Iggy Azalea and Rod Stewart with A$AP Rocky.
While Spike’s Caraoke Showdown features everyday Americans as contestants, Spike no doubt recognizes the benefits of star power in the digital age. Caraoke Showdown promises surprise celebrity guests to keep audiences and contestants on their toes. Singing Karaoke, drunk at midnight with coworkers in a dirty old bar is one thing. Singing Karaoke in front of your favorite celebrity, likely without the confidence building effect of a few brewskis should be awkwardly hilarious.
Caraoke Showdown is scheduled as a one off special, but you can easily see this becoming a series. For years, great late night show bits have defined hosts. Kudos Spike for not only allowing expanding some already brilliant concepts, but also for remembering TV can be fun, just for fun’s sake.
Robinson, repped by UTA and 3 Arts, recently won the Sundance Actor Award for his role in Morris From America.
