Wanda Sykes Joins Soccer Comedy

sykes

If you were psyched to hear Wanda Sykes as the voice of the Sofa Queen Sunday night on Bob’s Burgers, you’ll be happy to hear there might be a lot more Wanda Sykes on network tv!

The Hollywood Reporter has released the information that Sykes will co-star in ABC’s new soccer comedy ‘Dream Team’ alongside Justin Long.

ABC is familiar territory for the actress who has recently had a recurring role on the show Black-ish. Her new show, “Dream Team” is a single-camera comedy and revolves around Marty Schumacher (Justin Long), who coached his last club-soccer team for 10 years, ultimately taking them to the national championships. He now has to start from scratch with a diverse group of 8-year-olds and their disparate parents.

The show already has a funny premise, but the odds of it being a hit grow when you see the writers are Will & Grace alums Kari Lizer and Bill Wrubel, and the pilot will be directed by Marc Buckland (Emmy award winning director who has directed “Scrubs,” “My Name Is Earl,” and the “West Wing”).

Sykes joins a cast that also includes Michael Mosley, Michelle Buteau and Wynn Everett.

Though there’s not a lot of information about Wanda Sykes’ character it’s not a stretch to imagine she will be hilarious and tell it like it is.
