Tuesday night, Zach Galifianakis did an appearance on Conan to promote his new series, Baskets which airs on FX. Conan asked Zach about his experience interviewing President Obama on his series Between Two Ferns. Getting the President to appear on your podcast or web series seems like no big deal now, but when Obama appeared on Between Two Ferns, he hadn’t yet appeared on other shows so the experience was pretty damn exciting. Conan was floored seeing Zach do improv with the President of the United State at the White House and asked what it was like from Zach’s end.

Zach said he was pretty calm, and comfortable, but there was one question he just wasn’t comfortable asking the leader of the free world. He said before filming, he had dined in the White House restaurant, and noticed one of the dessert items on the menu was called Chocolate Freedom. Zach asked– and says he was not trying to be funny– whether that was their nickname for the Prez. Everyone wanted Zach to ask the President if that was his nickname, but he declined. “I’m like no, I’m not going to ask him that question, but it was just weird that Chocolate Freedom was on the menu and I thought it was named after him, but it has nothing to do with him.”

Zach also described a phone call with Obama that took place a few days after they shot the episode. “He called me after we shot it. I was at a construction site and I was by myself, we chatted.” If you’ve ever wondered how the President signs off a phone call with one of the funniest people in the biz– according to Galifianakis, he says “okay I’ll talk to you later brotha.”
