Cary Grant Gave a Very Young Rob Lowe Some Great Advice

Rob Lowe shared a story on Conan last night about meeting silver screen legend Cary Grant. Lowe said was a young punk at the time, just getting started in his career, but clearly already plenty cocky. He said he didn’t really know who Cary Grant was at the time, although he was familiar with Cary Granite from the Flinsttones so he knew he was important. Lowe went to school with Grant’s daughter (and incidentally was trying to get her in bed) and went over to the Grant house to watch his first television appearance ever, which was airing that day, with the two Grants. He said Cary answered the door in a white robe- fantastic of course- and that the film star gave Lowe some advice that he remembers to this day despite not really paying close attention at the time. The advice was this. “Young man, don’t ever eat a hot dog on a dias. Because then there will be a picture of you with a hot dog in your mouth.” And he never has.
Extra points to Conan for the smoooth transition into the story that clearly wasn’t pre-set up. 🙂
