Will Ferrell To Play All 9 Positions In 5 MLB Games

Will Ferrell is ready to play ball in 5 different ballparks on Thursday. He’ll be traveling around MLB Spring Training’s Cactus League if effort to play all 9 baseball positions for 10 different teams in a single day. Ferrell will be doing this to honor baseball’s Bert Campaneris who played every position in a single game 50 years ago. The whole day will be documented for an HBO special being done with Major League Baseball and Funny or Die.
New Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred said, “Spring training affords an appropriate setting where our game can serve as the backdrop for an event that will benefit organizations that fight cancer. Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball – among our clubs, players and our millions of fans – are big fans of his. Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause.”
The event and the special will help benefit organizations dedicated to fighting cancer including one close to Will Ferrell’s heart, Cancer For College which helps provides scholarships and resources for those affected by the disease. Part of the fundraising will be a charity auction on MLB.com, where fans can bid on game-used memorabilia from Will Ferrell’s baseball odyssey.
The HBO / MLB special is being done in honor of Bert Campaneris who in 1965, was in his second season in the major leagues when he went 0 – 3 while playing all nine positions for the KC Athletics in a game against the California Angels. “Campy’ is expected to be there for the HBO cameras when Will Ferrell starts his epic baseball challenge.
