Who’s at JFL 42 This Year? Another Great Line Up

JFL42 is one of the most underrated comedy festivals on the continent. The hype and hoopla always goes to the fest’s sibling event, Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival, but if you haven’t checked out Toronto’s biggest comedy festival, you’re missing out.

The headliners are just as big, the venues, just as cool, and the city- outstanding. Toronto takes comedy seriously 365 days a year, and if you want to visit one of the world’s most important comedy incubators, you need to visit T.O.

This year, the topline talent is as big as it gets- genuine living legend Carol Burnett will be present and performing her touring Q&A show with An Evening of Laughter and Reflection. She will be taking audience questions and showing video clips from her shows and it will be a one of a kind event. Also headlining the fest are Pete Davidson and John Mulaney, Marc Maron, Eric Andre, Nick Kroll and more.

The headliners are definitely the sprinkles on JFL42’s ice cream sundae, but the heart of the festival is “The 42.” That number refers to the outstanding comedians who will populate the festival, appearing on showcase shows, headlining shows, in conversations and more. These comedians ARE headliners. They are not lesser. They’re just performing at more local, accessible venues, and you can get a ten day crash course in almost everything you need to know about 21st century comedy just by attending.

Michelle Wolf, Nate Bargatze, Todd Barry, Dan Soder, Kate Berlant, Andy Kindler, Jen Kirkman, Joel Kim Booster, Sam Morril, Roy Wood Jr, and Ricky Velez are just a few of the killer headlining comedians you’ll be able to catch in this year. And there are plenty of emerging comedians to discover who might not be household names yet, but they’re some of comedy’s most promising young performers– Byron Bowers, Dave Merheje, Chanty Marostica, Nore Davis, the El-Salomons, DeAnne Smith and Sophie Buddle to name just a few.

Podcasts are an important part of every festival these days, and JFL42 is bringing a bunch: I Am Rapaport, True Crime Obsessed, Rosebud Baker and Corrine Fisher’s Two Less Lonely Girls, Having Funlessness with Jen Kirkman, Why Won’t You Date Me? with Nicole Byer, Gettin’ Better With Ron Funches, Obsessed with Sophie Buddle, and Whiskey Ginger w/ Andrew Santino.
