Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: October 2, 2021

Saturday Night Live is back tonight with its 47th season premiere and at the helm, long time comedy star but first time Saturday Night Live host, Owen Wilson.
Owen Wilson is joined by musical guest Kacey Musgraves. This year Michaels bucks tradition with a first time host, typically a former SNL cast member hosts the season premiere. In recent years, former repertory players and writers who have return to the host the show include Chris Rock, Seth Meyers, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Bill Hader, Jimmy Fallon, Larry David, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, John Mulaney, Adam Sandler, and most famously from last season, Eddie Murphy.
Wilson may not be an SNL alum but he’s got a strong comedy pedigree including a long time collaboration with Wes Anderson in movies Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel and the upcoming soon to be released film The French Dispatch. Wilson also starred in the Woody Allen romantic comedy Midnight in Paris, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, Peter Bogdanovich’s She’s Funny That Way
as well as iconic comedies Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, Wedding Crashers and The Internship. Kids know him from family movies like Marly and Me, Night at the Museum, and voice work in Cars.
There are a few cast changes this year, Beck Bennett is the only castmember who decided not to return, but everyone else remains on board, with three young additions. Sarah Sherman self described “body-horror artist” and comedian, who fans may recognize as Sarah Squirm. Aristotle Athari who you know as Gabe on Silicon Valley, and James Austin Johnson, known for a strong Trump impression and appearances in Hail, Caesar, Better Call Saul and Tuca and Bertie.
It’s anyone’s guess where Saturday Night Live will go with the cold open and topical jokes. The top news stories mostly center around Biden’s dropping approval rating, Covid-19, Britney Spears conservatorship, and fugitive Brian Laundrie.
There are few clues to be found in the sole promo released for tonight’s premiere.
