Tonight, Saturday Night Live is not live, but you can still enjoy comedy from SNL’s highest rated season in years because NBC will be running a repeat episode from earlier this season. Tonight NBC will air the episode that broadcast live on December 3rd when Emma Stone was the host. It’s the perfect Oscar weekend choice, because when the episode originally aired, Stone was promoting the movie “La La Land” which had just landed in theaters, and has since been winning a crazy amount of awards. Stone and “La La Land” are expected to win more awards this Sunday at the Academy Awards.
Stone hosted a good but not exceptional episode with some great guests showing up including Alec Baldwin and Jennifer Aniston. Emma has an adorable monologue about feeling like she’s going back to high school, and there’s a fantastic sketch featuring Pete Davidson about posters coming to life.
The highlight of the show is Baldwin’s Cold Open as Trump. “Classroom Cold Open” was one of the best Baldwin/Trump sketches so far, and really pissed off Trump who famously tweeted after seeing it that SNL was “Unwatchable”, “totally biased” and that Baldwin was not funny. “The Baldwin impression just can’t get any worse,” he said, calling it “sad.” Kate McKinnon appears as a frustrated Kellyanne Conway dealing with Trump’s bizarre re-tweeting choices. The response and the sketch made headlines everywhere the next morning.
Jennifer Aniston also made a double guest appearance- including an appearance on Weekend Update to respond to Vanessa Bayer’s Rachel impression.
Emma Stone is a frequent SNL guest, she’s now hosted three times– 2010, 2011 and 2016– as well as making guest appearances on the show, in digital sketches over the years, and at the SNL40 special. Shawn Mendes is the musical guest for the episode.
To promo the episode, SNL created a montage of some of her past appearances.
