Jim Gaffigan’s next movie is coming to theaters on June 14th, and has had a changed its name to “Being Frank.”
Previously named “You Can Choose Your Family,” the movie takes place in 1992 as Grunge music is becoming mainstream. Phillip is a middle American teenager who longs to leave his small town for music school in The Big Apple. But overbearing father, Frank, played by Jim Gaffigan, forbids it.
In the trailer we learn that dad (Gaffigan) is headed to Asia on a business trip, and plans to be gone for a few weeks, giving Phillip the chance to sneak out for a much needed break from the fam. He spots his father with another woman- initially thinking his dad is cheating with a much younger woman- in a pretty little small town. He discovers the woman is not his wife, but his daughter. Frank is hiding a second family: a second wife, a second life, complete with kids.
Phillip decides to use this to his advantage and pulls a surprise on his dad.
The film is directed by Miranda Bailey.
