“Dolemite is My Name” is coming to Netflix, and maybe a few theaters or two, and Monday the streaming platform dropped the first trailer and first real look at the pic.
Like many Netflix properties, no date has been given yet for the release, only a “coming soon”. Unlike many Netflix movies, this one looks pretty fantastic. It stars Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray More, a real-life 1970’s blaxploitation star about to go on a run of making “Dolemite” movies. The cast is pretty great, besides Murphy, the movie stars Keegan Michael-Kay, Snoop Dog, Tituss Burgess and Mike Epps.
It’s a big return time for Murphy, his name and his face are popping up everywhere after a few years out of the spotlight. He’s on an episode of Comedians in Cars With Coffee this season, showing a lighthearted aside of Eddie we haven’t seen in awhile. He’s also reportedly being wooed by Netflix to make a standup special comeback with a rumored $70 million package being offered for his stage return. “Coming 2 America” and “Beverly Hills Cop 4” are also in the works.
