Watch Comedy Stars Hype Tig Notaro In Promo For Her New HBO Stand-Up Special
Next month, HBO will premiere Tig Notaro’s first stand-up special. The excitement has already started building. In the first promo for Tig’s special, Boyish Girl Interrupted, some of Tig’s comedy friends gush about her greatness. Jack Black, Cheryl Hines, Sarah Silverman, Reggie Watts, Aparna Nancherla, James Corden, Margaret Cho, Kate Micucci, and Kristen Schaal all appear in this 50-second promotion.
Notaro’s special was taped in Boston on May 31 at the infamous Wilbur Theatre. Reviewing that live performance, the Boston Globe wrote, “Notaro could not have been cooler. There is a relaxed confidence in her delivery and a liveliness in her ideas. She performed that last quarter of the show topless…But nothing more about breast cancer, nothing more about her appearance. The biggest statement was left unspoken: This is who I am now, it’s part of me and it doesn’t change anything. I’m still funny. Still silly. What could be cooler than that?”
Tig came off of her Boyish Girl Interrupted tour from last fall. Tig toured 32 North American cities and 4 in Australia including a special date at the Largo theater that was a fundraiser in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Notaro also made headlines at her New York City Town Hall performance during the tour, when she performed most of the show topless, showing the audiences her double mastectomy. Notaro was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and underwent a double mastectomy choosing not to get breast reconstruction.
We talked with Tig just before her tour kicked off and she told us she planned to touch on everything from the week of bombing at a comedy club in Vegas, to stories about searching for Santa Claus to more personal events.
