USA Drawn Into Ghana Rematch To Begin 2014 FIFA World Cup

If it weren’t bad enough to be drawn into what’s being designated the “Group of Death,” the US Soccer squad will kick off their 2014 World Cup campaign against Ghana, the team that’s sent them packing from the last two World Cups. After that game on June 16th, they’ll face #5 Portugal on June 22nd, then #2 Germany (who sent them home in 2002) on June 26th. And according to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, they’ll be traveling a total of 8866 miles between stadiums, the most of any group. If they make it out of Group G, they’ll have to face either Belgium, Algeria, Russia, or South Korea out of Group H.

Mexico was drawn into Group A, with Croatia and host Brazil, and will kick off against Cameroon. England was drawn into Group D with Italy, Uruguay, and Costa Rica. And Group B will kick off with a rematch of the 2010 Final between Spain and The Netherlands.
