USA Cancels Its First Original Comedy

usa-network-logo__140412002356USA Network has cancelled the series that brought it into the original comedy business. The cable network has decided not to renew the sitcom “Sirens” after two seasons. The half hour comedy was USA’s first commitment to original sitcom programming after getting the rights to “Modern Family” reruns. “Sirens” was a comedy featuring a group of paramedics that work and hang out together. It starred Michael Mosley, Kevin Daniels, Kevin Bigley and Jessica McNamee. The show was from executive producer Denis Leary.

According to Deadline, “Sirens” was getting better critical reviews in its second season, but the ratings growth was non-existent, causing the cancellation. “Sirens” was the first of three series included in USA’s new comedy line up. Those shows also included the lawyer comedy “Benched” starring Eliza Coupe, Jay Harrington and Oscar Nunez which has been cancelled and “Playing House” starring Lennon Parham, Jessica St. Clair and Keegan-Michael Key which still airs on USA Network.

USA Network is sticking to his dedication to original comedy. The network has a six-episode semi-scripted comedic series created by and starring Donny Deutsch, called “Donny!” which will premiere later this year.
