Update on Lana (How the Ronald McDonald House Helped Us Help Our Little Girl)

Last month, Bryan touched us all by posting in our UNFILTERED section about his daughter Lana, who was born with a serious heart condition.  Despite all of the hard times he and his family have gone through, Bryan posted to let us know how thankful he is for the people at the Ronald McDonald house at the Milwaukee Children’s Hospital.  He wrote us today to update us on Lana’s condition.  Please join us in sending Bryan and his family love and good wishes.

20130622_124450Ron, Fez, and all the fans of the show and the Interrobang,

I thought I’d take some time and give everyone an update on our little girl Lana. We are now on day 58 of being up here at Milwaukee’s Children’s hospital, and one thing that has not changed is how great the staff is here. They continue to amaze me every day. That being said we would like nothing more than to get our baby well and get the hell out of here. That unfortunately will be quite a while yet. Besides the fact that her heart is bad and we’ve been waiting for a transplant, Lana has developed capillary leak syndrome. In short her body is not using the nutrients its getting, protein is basically leaking through her capillaries out the tubes surgically placed in her chest. She is putting out 10 times more than she should be for her body weight. This is not good! She had to be taken off the transplant list until they can get a handle on this problem. Last week Wednesday our Doc sat me and my girl down and explained to us there is nothing medically they can do to correct this. We were told that each day Lana remains in her current state the risk of infection or cardiac arrest goes up. I’m not gonna bullshit around here folks I felt like I’d been hit in the chest with a sledge hammer. How can this be? I look at my little girl every day. She’s finally starting to really recognize us she’s smiling. You bastards can’t tell me now after all this time there’s nothing you can do! The doc said nothing short of a miracle will help our girl. We settled down after hours of tears by Lana’s bedside, and headed back to the Ronald McDonald House to try and get some sleep. I awoke around 5:30 am to shower and come back to the hospital. I looked out my window to see the tail end of a rainbow shining on Children’s hospital. Hoping this was my sign of miracles happening I rushed over to Lana. I’d love to say she was fixed but not the case. I will say that I do believe its a sign of good things to come! Everyone wishes for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I see something a million times more valuable. My little girl Lana.

So we press on! Our girl continues to fight and we are by her side doing whatever we can. We can not hold her but she’ll wrap her tiny hands around my finger and she loves to have her head rubbed. She enjoys music being played especially piano and violin music. Any suggestions would be great. I’m goin a little nuts hearing the same music all the time.

Thank you all for taking time to read and comment about our girl. We appreciate all the good thoughts, vibes, and prayers sent our way. I will continue to update all of you on her progress

Peace,
Bryan
