Tom Green is a Mensch, Offers to Help Fan.
Earlier this week a story trended around the internet and television news about a North Carolina man who was arrested for failing to return a VHS copy of Green’s movie “Freddie Got Fingered.” The man was pulled over for a broken tail light when officers informed him that there had been an outstanding warrant out for his arrest since 2002. He was not arrested on the spot, and was allowed to drive his daughter to school on the promise that he would turn himself in later. He was charged with with failure to return rental property, handcuffed, and fingerprinted.
Tom Green, upon hearing about the incident, said he would pay the $200 fine required on a charge of failure to return rental property. “If it’s 200 bucks of course I’ll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing,” Green told the New York Daily News and agreed to do whatever he can for the man “as long as it doesn’t involve an outrageous sum.”
Meyers later told WSOC he was frustrated with time spent on his arrest.
“They’re not focusing on the crimes I think they should be focusing on,” he said, according to the news station. “That hour the cops sat out there with me, the hour and a half I was down in the magistrate’s office could have been spent somewhere else.”
