That Time Kellyanne Conway Performed Stand Up for Charity

In 1998, the woman who helped Trump get elected- Kellyanne Conway (then Kellyanne Fitzpatrick)- performed stand up comedy for a charity event at the DC Improv. The Funniest Celebrity in Washington is an annual contest benefiting the Child Welfare League of America. There are similar events in New York every year- our own Jeffrey Gurian is always a part of the NYC event. Journalists, politicians, and other insiders take a shot at being comedians for a good cause.
Mashable posted video of Kellyanne’s set. She performed with her foot in a cast after recent surgery, and focused a large part of her set on “The Top 5 Reasons Why Kellyanne’s Foot is Really in a Cast.” Her 13 minute set also made fun of media, roasted some of the other acts and some people in the audience, and included a few minutes about the phrase “pundette” – which she described as “someone who goes on TV and says the same thing over and over and over again, but never wears the same thing twice.” She tried a few lawyer jokes, and some political slogan jokes before ending her set by putting on a feather boa and singing a song about “the pundit blues.”
She got some chuckles from the crowd and a few groans after a Redskins joke, which was more than some of the performers got that night and less than others. The event was broadcast on C-Span.
Jump to 1:31 for Kellyanne’s set. If you want to watch the entire 2.5 hours you’ll also get to see radio persona Jim Bohannon, Letitia Baldrige, and Joe Scarborough. She did not win, or even place or show. Norm Ornstein, attorney William Ginsberg and Newsweek magazine reporter Matt Cooper (who won for his Bill Clinton impression) all took home trophies.
Comedian Bob Somerby MC’ed.
