A declassified document shows that 2 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over North Carolina in 1961 when a B-52 bomber broke up in mid-air over the state. One bomb’s safety protocols worked and the other’s came down to the final safety switch. If it exploded, the blast could have been 260 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. It’s hard to imagine what things would be like if the bombs had gone off. Michael Jordan may have never been born. We could have lost Richard Petty. And the NFC South would look completely different today.
