The Funniest Actresses Alive Had A Raunchy Roundtable

hollywood reporter comedy actress roundtable

The Hollywood Reporter had its annual roundtable for Emmy-contending actresses. This one was special, featuring some of the funniest and most influential performers in comedy today, male or female.

The panel included comedy stars Amy Schumer, Lena Dunham, Ellie Kemper, Gina Rodriguez, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Kate McKinnon. The comic actresses broke down their personal experiences, their thoughts on the current state of comedy, and horrifying moments they’ve had in their rises to the top of their field. The talk is fascinating, unfiltered, and raw. They also talk about sexism in the industry, their worst moments performing, and the ugliest responses they’ve received from viewers. And

The panel is particularly fun to witness the respect these actresses have for each other. Lena Dunham praised Amy Schumer for the work she has created, calling “The ’12 Angry Men” sketch Amy did is “the most important thing that’s happened on TV in a long time.”

They also talked about their experiences doing sex scenes, with Lena Dunham saying she gave up wearing the “patch” that hides your vagina a long time ago. “I stopped wearing the nude patch after the first season of Girls,” she said, adding “there’s not one guy who works on that show who hasn’t seen the inside of my vagina.”

Ellie Kemper, in stark contrast, has never done a nude scene, and says she falls in love during kissing scenes. “I am so prudish that when I’ve had to kiss someone in a scene, I think for the next hour that we’re in love! It’s a middle-school frame of mind.”

The girls also talked about their most mortifying moments in comedy (Amy’s was performing for a hunger strike), the most sexist thing anyone’s said to them, the lack of women in Late Night television, adjusting to fame and fighting for higher pay. Later McKinnon voiced Amy Schumer’s vagina.
