- 5 Second Films. Years before Vine became popular by allowing users to create 6 second videos, the folks at 5 second films were giving the Internet daily hilarity with a second to spare. Started in 2005 by Brian Fitenzi while attending USC, 5SF went live in 2008, bringing you a quick, daily set up and punchline with a revolving cast of people and stories. With 115 million views on YouTube and over 1,000 videos, 5SF has become one of the most popular running web series ever. Watch it on 5secondfilms or scroll down for the video.
- Today Now! ‘The Onion’ has given satirical views of the news and media for years through articles on their website but in 2007 they launched a series of web videos skewering different facets of the news. ‘Today Now!’ parodies the cliché morning show with hosts Tracy & Jim tackling news stories like Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson being euthanized and Oprah inviting her fans to be buried in her massive tomb with her. Occasionally, a clip will be mistaken by some outlets as being real, as was the case with the video below. Watch it on YouTube or scroll down for the video.
- Fresh Perspectives. Americans have been inundated with ads for AT&T featuring a well dressed man having a frank discussion with a group of school children. What many people don’t know is that the man, actor Beck Bennett, had already been producing and starring in a similar series of videos prior to the popular ads called ‘Fresh Perspective’. With a mixture of ‘Kids Say The Darndest Things’ and Sean Hannity’s ‘Great American Panel’, Bennett grills his child panelists on a series of hot-button issues with hilarious results.
