The 5: Live From Daryls House Edition

This Week on THE FIVE: LIVE FROM DARYL’s HOUSE
This week we picked five of the greatest moments from our absolute favorite music show on the internet (and now television), LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE. This was almost impossible as there is an endless list of great moments to choose from, but we did our best. Trust us once you get a taste, you’ll leave our picks behind and watch the whole series:
- From the Nick Lowe episode: Daryls House finds it’s laid back vibe with River songs. Daryl, Bone and Nick hanging out next to the river, singing the way you and your drunk friends think you can when on vacation. I shouldn’t even have to tell you this…but you can’t.
- From the Todd Rundgren episode: Two Philadelphia soul Gods in Hawaii. We could have picked both of the Runt’s episodes but that’s cheating. We went with this because of the Hawaiian shirts and luau. Highlights are The Last Ride (this is as good as white people can sing) and Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo (keep on rockin as the Geater say). Nuff Said.
- From the Sharon Jones episode: Sharon Jones is the best and most unexpected surprise to soul music in decades. Don’t miss Hot Fun in the Summertime. And if Sharon and Daryl singing this don’t make you call up an ex girlfriend, then you haven’t lived much of life. Also, focus on 100 Days 100 Nights: Church Gospel meets Philly Soul! Amazing!
- From the Smokey Robinson episode: Of Course Smokey Robinson ! Any list, of any kind about American music that does not include Smokey Robinson is a bullshit list and needs to be thrown away. Highlights? Smokey and Daryl start singing Sara Smile and Daryl gently bullies Smokey singing Ooh Baby Baby. It’s magical, and may be the highlight of the series (so far).
- From the Remembering T Bone Wolk episode: T. Bone Wolk is remembered , honored and even roasted a little by the men who knew him, respected him and loved him unconditionally . It’s both heart breaking and life affirming . Highlights include the whole show. All of it, the songs, and the memories. It’s just great, but especially The Weight. Pete Moshay makes sure Bone is there to sing with the Hall and Oates Band.
Now go and watch as many episodes as you can, and then come back and let us know your favorites. Send us comments!
