Stephen Colbert Takes Over Public Access Show in Michigan Small Town

Stephen Colbert just put Monroe Michigan on the map, taking over their local access television station to put on his own version of a Monroe public access show. Knowing what matters to Monroe-vians he talked about local traffic, local parking problems, and gave a nice history of the “birthplace of the la-z-boy reclining chair’.
Colbert had guests on his show, first welcoming the delightful Michelle Baumann and former miss America Kaye Lani Raftko-Wilson, who normally host the Monroe show. They weren’t available to host the show today, because they were booked as guests on Colbert’s take over. Good thing he was available to fill in. The interview went extremely well, as did a rousing 7 minutes of “Monroe News” which included local business news, and some weather talk, and a discussion of a Yelp page that is causing local disharmony, courtesy of Yelp reviewer “Mark M.”
His second and last interview was a little bumpy. Mr. Colbert sat for 20 minutes interview with a very confused Marshall Mathers who he introduced as “a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music. Mathers enjoyed some very pleasant small talk, talked musical influences, hoodies, the meaning of “feat.” on a rap song, but became confused and disoriented when Mr. Colbert began offering career and financial advice, and eventually challenging him to a fight. At least you got to plug your movie M.
While we enjoyed Colbert’s first public access outing, we would advise doing a little more prep before bringing in a guest in the future, and maybe its a bad idea to challenge your guest to fight,….we’re also thinking a cooking segment? A solid first effort Colbert. You’re on to something here.
Is that Silicon Valley’s Zach Woods as the voice of Monroe? Great job.
Colbert returns to network television on September 8th, when The Late Show With Stephen Colbert premieres.
