Whoopi Goldberg has been missing from the View. The show says she’s sick but some people aren’t buying that. There’s speculation and rumor that she’s secretly preparing to host the currently hostless Oscars. She’d be an interesting choice- Whoopi has hosted the Oscars four times already, most recently in 2002. And some are pointing out that back in January she spoke up and said she’d love to get back up there and host the Academy Awards again. Did Vanity Fair post a hint when earlier this week they posted a video of Whoopi Goldberg’s opening monologue at the 74th Academy Awards on YouTube? Do they know something?
The Guardian pointed out that Whoopi was critical of the decision not to hire a host. “If you want to go hostless, that’s your prerogative. I think it’s a dumb idea. People need someone to take them through things. I think it needs to be somebody who loves the films.”
But what would be the upside of a surprise host and why wouldn’t the Academy just announce if they made that call? The annual awards event is hostless after Kevin Hart walked away or was pushed away from the gig. Hart’s old tweets came back to haunt him, and despite an attempt to revive interest in Hart hosting with an appearance on Ellen’s ABC daytime show, the Oscars remain without a host.
Whoopi Goldberg's absence from The View (she's sick, they say) since the day after they announced her as an Oscar presenter+the fact that she's the only previous Oscar host listed as a presenter+she openly said on The View in January that she'd be up for hosting=???
