SNL Gets FCC Complaints After Kanye Ep, Citing F-Words and Visible Nipples

It’s strange to think that people still call the FCC to complain about shit they see on television- and even odder to think that people who bother staying up for Saturday Night Live are complaining. Rolling Stone magazine did some checking after SNL’s Kanye episode aired and found that “more than a dozen” viewers contacted the FCC to complain about that episode.

Not because he ranted about Trump, but because he dropped a few F-bombs in his musical performance. Saturday Night Live censors were likely on high alert, but missed the line “I’m a sick fuck, I like a quick fuck,” that Ye dropped into “I Love It” which he performed from the inside of a Perrier bottle costume.

Rolling Stone magazine obtained the complaints through a Freedom of Information Act request and says the complaints came from all over the country- well not the Northeast- but they were scattered from Florida to Hawaii. A Florida complainant called “I Love It” lyrics “degrading and offensive.” A Michigan viewer asked the FCC to “INVESTIGATE AND FINE!!!” for the F-word being dropped. A Dallas viewer seemed to think SNL was “the news” and was upset by the use of the word bullshit.

But according to Rolling Stone, more people were complaining about seeing breasts than a few fucks being thrown around. Teyana Taylor, who performed “We Got Love” with Kanye was the subject of complaints, because her shirt was sheer, and if you concentrate hard enough, you could imagine she’s topless. A Utah viewer wanted the FCC to know “nipples were quite visible” and a Florida complaint was upset that “the female performer was basically topless onstage dancing.”

Many of the complaints demanded that the late night show be fined.
