SNL Bringing In Oscar Nominee J.K. Simmons To Host

Being an Academy Award nominee has its perks. There’s luncheons, gift baskets and you get to host Saturday Night Live. J.K. Simmons was announced by NBC as the host for SNL on Saturday, January 31st. He’s a first time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner for the movie “Whiplash” for his performance as the abusive conductor and drum instructor. He’s also a first time SNL host.
Wynn Casino in Vegas has J.K. as the 1 to 5 favorite to bring home the Best Supporting Actor trophy over his competition, Edward Norton, “Birdman”, Ethan Hawke, “Boyhood”, Mark Ruffalo, “Foxcatcher” and Robert Duvall, “The Judge”.
Expect some drumming sketches and probably a sketch involving Spider-Man. J.K. Simmons played the gruff, but not lovable Daily Bugle newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” trilogy for which no actor was nominated for an Oscar.
D’Angelo and The Vanguard are making their debut as the SNL musical guest.
J.K. Simmons rounds out a January of new shows for Saturday Night Live on Saturday, January 31st at 11:30pm et on NBC.
