According to Philly.com, ‘Silicon Valley’s Zach Woods wants the City of Philadelphia to know he is sorry for some statements he made about the city of Brotherly Love on Marc Maron’s podcast last week.

Woods plays Jared on HBO’s popular series “Silicon Valley.” Some people were miffed that Walsh mixed up some references to bad fan behavior in Philly, saying he remembered an incident of Santa skating around at a Flyers game and having batteries thrown at him. Locals were pissed Walsh mixed up a few separate incidents. It was true that Santa got pelted, but only with snowballs, not batteries.

But what they more pissed about was Woods saying that Philly is “kind of racist.” He told Maron, “It’s also, Philadelphia is a kind of a racist city and their sports … I’m not like a big sports guy, but I remember when I was growing up, Santa Claus would skate onto the ice around Christmastime at Flyers games, and people would throw batteries at Santa Claus.

In his apology he told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he was glad the Philly paper gave him an opportunity to apologize because he felt awful about it. “I was trying to be light-hearted and it ended up coming off completely wrong. Listening back to the interview, I totally understand how people thought it was annoying. It was way too serious a thing to say about the city,” Woods said. “I just off-handedly said that and, to be honest, I’m new to doing interviews and having people take what I say seriously. I thought I was just chatting with Marc Maron. It made me shudder. It blew up in every conceivable way. My family, lots of people I love, live in Philly. I live in L.A., it’s not like I think where I live is any better.”

Anyone who knows the City knows the only thing he needs to apologize for is using the term “kind of.”
