Seinfeld’s 4th Wall Revealed

fourth wall

Over 17 years since Seinfeld went off the air, the public obsession with the show-about-nothing continues. The folks at Vox did an intensive investigation into Jerry’s apartment, zooming in on walls of the set seldom seen in episodes.

Close-up photos reveal two bottles of champagne, a bottle of red wine, and a bottle of white wine — although Jerry is rarely seen drinking in episodes. A zoom-in also reveals many cereal boxes, which corroborates with Jerry’s established love of cereal. Vox unearthed a biography of Jerry Seinfeld, in which the set designer of his sitcom noted that there were no less than 17 different boxes of cereal in the background of his apartment.

The fourth wall shows close-ups of framed posters, which include photos of Porsches and baseball, consistent with Jerry’s interests. One image on the wall also appears to be a photo of a little league team. It is too blurry to tell if George Costanza is in the team photo. This question will just have to remain one of those mysteries that we will never know and should never really matter to anyone.
