Second City Promotes New Talent With John Candy Box Fest

A brand new initiative from Toronto’s Second City is honoring one of its most beloved alums. The John Candy Box Series will recognize outstanding work in Toronto’s comedy community and take place at the John Candy Box Theatre. The series will run for ten days in November from the 2nd through the 12th, with eight talent packed shows that are a mix of highlights of Toronto’s 2017 Fringe Fest, seasoned performers and up and coming comedians.

Taking place on Thursday, November 2 at 9:15pm, Saturday, November 4 at 8:30pm and Sunday, November 5 at 7pm, this show started out as a bet: could this team put together a sketch comedy show with thirty two sketches about bees – any kind of bees, from honey bees to the letter B to Bea Arthur – in sixty minutes? Turns out, they could! B++++++ Written and performed by Andrew Bushell, Leigh Cameron, Claire Farmer, Jessica Greco, Shannon Lahaie, Chris Leveille and Cameron Wyllie.

Songs For a New World Order comes to the Box Theatre on Thursday, November 9 at 10:45pm and Sunday, November 12 at 8:30pm. Songs for a New World Order is an acoustic collection of sharp, witty, and ridiculous songs by Anesti Danelis, that hang in the balance between observational and surreal, while finding the humor in our absurdly twisted world. The songs tackle serious, hard pressing issues such as: slow walkers, falling in love in space, pajamas, role-playing, Mother’s Day, bullies, and the search for humanity – all in one delightfully dark package.

Caitlin & Eric Are Broken Up will be playing on Thursday, November 9 at 9:15pm and Saturday, November 11 at 8:30pm. Caitlin & Eric Are Broken Up is based on the respective real-life (and real-embarrassing!) break-up stories of performers Eric Miinch and Caitlin Robson. Co-written and directed by Jess Beaulieu, and hailed as a “Millennial ‘When Harry Met Sally'” by NOW Magazine, “it’s guaranteed to make audiences laugh, cry and break up in every way.”

Vandad Kardar presents T- Dutty Comedy Show on Saturday, November 11 at 10pm. The most “dutty mandem & greaziest bad biddies” on the Toronto stand up comedy grind are live and direct in the heart of the city!
